Physical Difficulties Support Service (PDSS)

The PDSS is part of the Access to Education integrated support service for schools in Birmingham.

Our aim is to support and promote the inclusive education of children and young people with physical and motor difficulties in mainstream settings and schools in the Central and East area of Birmingham.

The Central and East Team is based at Brays School and consists of

Jane Runacres – Director and PDSS teacher

Afia Begum – PDSS teacher

Emma Woodward – PDSS teacher

We work collaboratively with education settings to promote positive inclusive practice of pupils with physical difficulties in mainstream schools.

We aim to develop the skills of the staff in schools through visits, observations, assessments and training. PDSS will advise schools in their compliance with the Equalities Act 2010 and their statutory duties. We will contribute to Special Educational Needs statutory procedures if appropriate and offer advice and guidance to the Local Authority.

There are three bases of PDSS across the city;

Central and East - Brays Base -

Central and South - Victoria Base -

North and West - Wilson Stuart Base -

Please contact us if you are unsure which base covers your school.
