Specialist Leader in Education
Brays Teaching School and Specialist Alliance
Secondment opportunity - Secondment up to 15 days a year, term time only
Brays Teaching School is seeking to recruit and accredit Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs) across a range of specialisms. Successful appointees will be talented and skilled specialists in their field who have demonstrated their ability to support other schools to improve their practice. Our successful candidates will develop leadership capacity in another school who the Teaching School is commissioned to support. Accredited SLEs will be outstanding middle or senior leaders who have a successful track record of using coaching and/or facilitation skills to bring about sustainable improvement, together with an understanding of what constitutes ‘outstanding’ in their field of expertise. They must be able to work sensitively and collaboratively with their peers, under the direction of the Teaching School.
Teaching schools are responsible for the recruitment, designation, brokerage, deployment and quality assurance of SLEs. More information about the SLE role is available on the Gov.uk website.
We are currently inviting SLE applications that can fulfil the following specialisms:
- English Primary Phase
- English Secondary Phase
- Special Educational Needs
- Science Primary Phase
- Leadership of the Curriculum Primary Phase
- Leadership of the Curriculum Secondary Phase
- Maths Primary Phase
- Maths Secondary Phase
- Behaviour and Discipline
We welcome applicants from any phase or type of school. Their home school must have the capacity to release the successful applicant between 10 to 15 days a year. Eligibility criteria and other guidance to prospective applicants are available at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/specialist-leaders-of-education-a-guide-for-potential-applicants
Applicants must have the support and agreement of their head teacher, who will need to confirm that the school has the capacity to release them and act as referee. The SLE’s home school is reimbursed for the SLE’s time out of school at an agreed rate commensurate with the deployment cost. Please note that there is no cost to apply, nor for the core training for successful applicants. No funding is available for travel or supply cover associated with attending any briefing meeting, interviews or core training.
